Field Hockey Assistant Coach Murphy On A Mission In Uganda

June 9, 2008

UGANDA - Spider assistant field hockey coach Jodi Murphy is in Uganda with the International Sports Federation, setting up sports camps at orphanages in three IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps.

Internally Displaced Persons are people who are forced to leave their homes, but remain in the same country. The International Sports Federation is a sports ministry that mobilizes coaches, athletes and trainers to serve all over the world using sports as a means to reach people.

"I am incredibly excited about this mission and I am so thankful for all the support I have received from the University of Richmond Athletic Department, and the Richmond community," Murphy said. "Many coaches in the department have donated equipment that will be dispersed throughout the camps."

Murphy, a 2007 Richmond graduate, is part of a 10-person team from across the United States that went through two days of training before heading to Uganda on June 5. She will be spending two weeks overseas.
