Local Students Visit The Robins Center
June 2, 2008
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond women's basketball head coach Michael Shafer and his staff welcomed first grade students from Mary Mumford Elementary School to the Robins Center for several activities. With help from Westhampton College Dean Juliette Landphair, the children were able to explore the University for the second straight year. "It was a pleasure to have the first graders from Mary Mumford visit campus and the Robins Center," coach Shafer commented. "This is the second year in a row that they have come to the University of Richmond in the early summer." After the students walked around the beautiful University of Richmond campus, they visited the Robins Center where coach Shafer and his staff spoke to the children about the importance of education and participation in the community and athletics. While some students played basketball and other activities on the Robins Center gym, other students toured student-athlete facilities including the women's basketball locker room, academic rooms and strength and conditioning areas. "They toured the campus, walked around the lake and then visited the Robins Center," Shafer added. "Our staff took them on a tour of the locker room and let them free play on the court. We are just hopeful that the first graders burned a little energy; we know the staff and teachers did."
